Prison Ship, Aquia Creek, March 1863?
Posted by: Teresa Purvis (ID *****4112) Date: October 14, 2002 at 01:55:00

Is there any local information on prison ships stationed at Aquia Creek during the Civil War?

Was General Hooker's headquarters near there in early March, 1863?

My gggrandfather & 2 friends were captured in Northumberland County on March 8, 1863, "taken to General Hooker's headquarters" where they were "held in a tent" before being "imprisoned on a prison ship in Aquia Creek", then sent to the Old Capital Prison in Washington DC.

Thanks, Teresa
