Do Stafford County tax rolls exist?

Do tax records from about 1780-1790 exist for Stafford County? I checked the Library of Virginia for microfilm and found none. Does that mean the records do not exist or that they have not been filmed? I found a record for Thomas Cave with a son Thomas Cave as tithable on the 1787 roll, but that was in a book, and I do not know the source of the information. I am trying to determine when Thomas Cave Sr entered the county and from where. He apparently died that year because in 1788, Thomas Cave Jr is listed with his mother Jane on the Fauquier County tax roll. Will someone with knowledge of Stafford County records set me straight about the tax rolls?
