Thomas Cave on 1787 tax roll

Thomas Cave is shown on the 1787 tax roll of Stafford County, VA, charged with a tithable individual known as Thomas Cave. I suspect Thomas Cave Sr to be the husband of the Jane Cave shown on the 1789 tax roll of Fauquier, VA, charged with a tithable individual known as Samuel Cave. I am waiting for the microfilm for the year 1788, which might provide a critical clue. I think that it will show Jane Cave charged with Thomas Cave as tithable in Fauquier County, VA. If that is the case, a brick wall will come down for me. It will mean that Thomas and Jane Cave had two sons, an elder one named Thomas and a younger one named Samuel. It would indicate that Thomas Jr was born about 1768 and that Samuel was born about 1773. Samuel Cave, my ancestor, married Elizabeth Lowry on June 14, 1793, in Fauquier County, VA. I seek information about these putative parents of Samuel Cave. If you can confirm, support, or refute this idea, please contact me.
