Hi Deborah,

I did some searching and I found a nice 1863 map at the Spotsy site here:

http://www.spotsylvania.va.us/departments/infoserv/gis/index.cfm?doc_id=175

This one is labeled:
"Chief Engineer's Office D.N.V
Maj. Gen. J.F. Gilmer, Chief Engineer
Map
of
Spotsylvania County
Made under direction of A.H. Campbell, Capt. Engineers in chg. Top. Dept." at the bottom right-hand corner

Is that the same as your map? This one is in sepia with black lines for the roads, and family names throughout. It is interested to see how many family farms are still in the hands of the same people in the area where I grew up. :-)

Thanks for responding!

Blessings,

Greg
