in the Tennesse State Archives Bldg and in the Ridley Family record are statements by patriarch Geo. Ridley of TN, a founder of Nashville, that he "was born in 1737 in Isle of Wight County" and that he descended from the English martyr Dr. Ridley. the records state that when Cromwell confiscated the Ridley estate, three Ridley brothers fled to VA--one settling in VA, one in GA, and another in Maine( not sure on the Maine one). these entries were dated 1834(wen G. Ridley was 100 yrs old, and, in 1852 by Robert Ridley, son of James Ridley of Nashville. but i can find no mention of G. Ridley in I of W. county.
i am a cousin of Ann Coulter the commentator --we share G. Ridley as a 5th gr-granddad. her family tree shows G.'s parents were Thomas Ridley and Amy Scott, but no verification or parents of T.R & Amy S. do any of you have any knowlege that might verify the I. of W. statements for Geo. Ridley? if not, i am going to have to either wait for Heaven or find a Southampton DNA Ridley donor (paternal) willing to help out. thanks so much for your time in reading this.
