Hello Bill -
I was browsing this board in preparation for a visit to Southampton Co., and found your message from last December. I don't have an answer to your question, but a suggestion of where to look. The name of your John Harris' 12th child, NEWITT, suggests that John was a descendent of EDWARD DREW, (b. Surry Co. ca. 1667) and Frances NEWITT. Edward and Frances moverd to Southampton County around 1719, and their descendents included several people with the first name of Newitt. Their descendents also married several Harrises, including a John and a Henry, in Southampton Co. and Bertie Co. NC.
Your information does not precisely match the information I received from Ron Thompson, a thorough and knowledgeable researcher who was posting regularly on the DREW forum until about a year and a half ago. According to Ron, Edward and Frances had a son, Newitt, and a daughter, Mary, who married a John Harris. These people were likely born before 1700. Now that I think about it, your Henry, who might have been born around 1710-1720, was possibly the son of Mary Drew and John Harris. That way the Newitt connection makes sense, but still does not solve the problem of Henry's wife's name. Sorry this isn't more helpful!
Looks like the Bettises, Harrises and Drews were entangled from way back, but I still haven't puzzled out the Bettis-Drew connection.
