1797 Indian Uprising Powell's Valley - CUNNINGHAM

Trying to authenticate some information posted by a CUNNINGHAM researcher. He stated that his ancestor, James CUNNINGAM, was killed in an Indian uprising in Powell's Valley, Shenandoah Co., Virginia sometime between Jan and Sep 1797. I have a Thomas CUNNINGHAM potentially in my line living in the same area then who may be related. Both CUNNINGHAM men married into the LICHLITER family.

Can any Shenandoah County researcher point me in the right direction to learn more about this alleged uprising? I am interested to learn tribes involved and who was killed, if the incident indeed happened.

I have located a Powell's Fort Valley outside of Strasburg on modern-day maps and assume it is the same, but am not familiar with the area. Plan to visit this summer.
