Pendleton Y-DNA Project

Hi all you Scott Co. Pendleton cousins. How many of you knpw for sure which branch of the Pendleton family tree from which you descend? Many of you probably have a "paper trail" tracing your descent from Benjamin (b. c1751). He & his brother Edmund(b. c1754) were the first documented Pendletons who migrated to the Ft. Blackmore area of the cradle of many,if not most, of the SW VA, NE TN, & SE KY Pendletons. This "cradle" is roughly bounded by the Clinch River, Copper Creek & the Scott Co/Russell Co. border.

Edmund moved on to Cannon (or Wilson) Co. TN c1810 leaving Benjamin as the patriarch of our family tree consisting of 5 branches with descendants of:
1. Elizabeth Pendleton(b 1773, m Levi
Swanson)
2. Reuben Pendleton(b c1777(
3. James A. Pendleton(b 1779)
4. John "Rev.John" Pendleton(b c1782)
Rev. John has 2 sub-branches, the one
which settled in TX & the one that
remained in Scott Co.
5. Mary "Polly" Pendleon( c1787, m Jesse
Wilson Conn)

David Ellis Pendleton who compiled & published "The Descendants of Philip Pendleton, a Virginia Colonist" volunteered to help get a Pendleton Y-DNA Project started. The objective of this project is to (1) help define various Pendleton branches & (2) help those who have run into a brick wall in their paper trail.

Even if you have a well documented paper trail back to Benjamin's 2g grandfather, Philip, the immigrant (b 1654 Norwich England), I encourage you to participate in this project to help build a good data base that will help others find where they fit into this Pendleton family tree. When you consider that David's book has over 5000 documented descendants with the Pendleton surname scattered around the U.S. & beyond, & there are probably that many more undocumented surnamed Pendletons, not to mention those descendants with surnames other than Pendleton--let's face it there's an awful lot of cousins out there stymied in their search for their roots.

WE CAN HOPEFULLY MAKE A DIFFERENCE not only in identifying unique Pendleton branches but in helping future generations navigate thru the frustrating search for their roots

The web site dedicated to ths Pendleton Y-DNA project is:
worldfamilies.net/surnames/p/pendleton

Check it out & if possible help make a difference. Incidentally, I think smgf.org still offers free Y-DNA tests.

Jack
