THE BIGGEST STEELE FAMILY REUNION - 2002
This has been an exciting year for the family. A very knowledgeable relative named Tammy Dyer from Ohio has started a website “STEELE RESEARCH” that has brought a lot of distant relatives together, who probably would never have met. Another great researching relative named Jack S. Fox from Maryland and Tammy Steele Dyer, and 57 other cousins are working on an amazing Steele history book.
I have met, online, lots of relatives I never knew existed, they are all interested in the family history and are great people.
I have come across a relative, Louise Jackson, who also has a Steele Family Reunion right outside of Richlands. After talking to her, we decided we ought to have them both the same weekend, since they are both less than 4 miles apart. This will be a great chance for everyone with all our common ancestors to meet & get to know each other. Also to find out how we’re related.
I have invited all the relatives from the other reunion to ours and all of us are invited to theirs.
There are people coming in from other states who have gotten connected through the internet. Tammy S Dyer and Jack S. Fox will be there, hopefully with a rough draft of their book so people can check for mistakes & correct them. Hopefully people from both reunions will try to make it to both reunions. There will be a lady there - Trula West, who just turned 95 & is full of stories.
Both reunions will be, bring some food to share & your appetite, and photos and descendants and ancestor information to share too.
I’d like to suggest that everyone, if you can, make up a little sign that traces your Steele ancestors back as far as you can, so when you meet people they can instantly see how your related. I’m going to pin mine on my shirt.
I’ve come across the originial map of the Steele cemetery, at the William T. Steele and the many relatives before him, farm.
Also enclosed, map to our reunion and theirs. Ours will be at the “Cedar Bluff Overlook park” which is a new and exceptionally scenic little park on a hill overlooking Cedar Bluff. All the facilities are new & nice.
