Carol:

I may have already written to you, but I am posting this message to see if you have found any connection between your Rays (Benjamin, etc) and 'Reason Ray' who appears on the 1820 Russell County census. I was told by Carl Ray that he thinks Reason may be the father of Peter Ray who shows up in later censuses (1840, 1850). I have no info on Reason though. There were a few people with that first name back then, some of whom had names like 'John Reason ...' or 'John Rezin...' so maybe this was his middle name and he was really a 'John R. Ray' Could he be one of the John Rays that appears on the 1810 tax list of Russell County? His wife/widow may have been a 'Sarah' Ray who lives next door to Peter Ray with a Robert Johnson in those later censuses. I noticed that she eventually marries Robt Johnson and takes his name, while in her 60's. This is where I am stuck tracing my Ray roots, so I would appreciate any leads. Thanks,
---
Ed Ray
