Who were the parents, siblings, descendants and ancestors of WILLIAM PERKINS & ELIZABETH ANDERSON who were married on September 14, 1837 in Fayette County, Virginia (now West Virginia)? Where did the family live? What chidren did they have?
In subsequent years, men named WILLIAM PERKINS were recorded in a number of Virginia counties: 1840 Grayson, 1860 Montgomery & Russell, 1870 Wythe. It is unceratin if any of these men are the same as the WILLIAM PERKINS who married above. If you could help clarify this matter, it would be much appreciated.
One child of WILLIAM PERKINS & ELIZABETH ANDERSON is ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS who married ELIZA EASTRIDGE in Washington County, Virginia on December 20, 1863 by the Rev. ALEX LITTLE. The Washington County, Virginia marriage register lists ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS as a 23 year old, single farmer who was the son of WILLIAM & ELIZABETH ANDERSON PERKINS. It records ELIZA EASTRIDGE as the 16 year old (she was actually 15) daughter of ABIGAIL (ABBY) EASTRIDGE & WILLIAM CAMPBELL HENDERSON.
ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS was born February 18, 1840 and died June 4, 1913. His wife, ELIZA EASTRIDGE, was born illegitimately on September 28, 1848 and died January 2, 1918.
Both ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS & ELIZA EASTRIDGE are buried in the Perkins Cemetery near Hyter's Gap in the Poor Valley section of Washington County, Virginia.
This couple were the parents of the following children:
1. ELIZABETH (LIZZY) PERKINS B) May 8, 1865
M) JAMES MONROE COLLEY on Nov 17, 1881
2. WILLIAM A. PERKINS B) July 1868
M) POLLY ANN DYE on Sept 9, 1897
3. FOWLER FULLEN PERKINS B) April 23, 1870
D) June 26, 1942
M) HENRIETTA (ETTA) HENDERSON
on June 21, 1889 Sullivan Co, Tennessee
4. SUSAN A. PERKINS B) 1873 D) Sept 9, 1873
5. WHITLEY FULLEN PERKINS B) July 21, 1875
M) ANNIE COFFEY
6. ELLEN LAY MAGNOLIA PERKINS
B) Sept 22, 1878
D) FEB 9, 1952
M) JAMES SANDERS HENDERSON on Nov 1, 1894
in Bristol, Tennessee
7. THOMAS DUNN PERKINS B) September 1884
M) MARY ELLEN MITCHELL
8. JOHN D. PERKINS B)Jan 10, 1887
D) March 27, 1905
Since two of the Perkins children were married in either Sullivan County, Tennessee or the neighboring city of Bristol, Tennessee, it seems likely that the family of ANDREW JACKSON PERKINS & ELIZA EASTRIDGE risided their for some time.
The 1890 census shows a ANDREW J. PERKINS in Sullivan County, Tennessee. The 1891 Tennessee Voter List also shows this.
One ANDREW J. PERKINS served the Union as a private in Company F, 3rd Tennessee Mounted Infantry. Another ANDREW PERKINS fought for the Confederacy as a private in Company E, 60th Tennessee Mounted Infantry. Whether either of these gentlemen is my ancestor is uncertain.
According to the Civil War Pension Index, an ANDREW J. PERKINS who was residing in Tennessee, filed for a pension.
Any assistance in determining more about these people and their ancestors and descendants would be greatly appreciated.
With warm regards,
Lewis Sanders Tuggle
