My great-grandfather Henry Charles Davis was born in Russell County, Virginia on 06 Dec 1863. He was killed by a train, walking along the track between Castlewood and Fink in Russell County, Virginia before 1910. I know this because I have a copy of an article from the ďLebanon NewsĒ, and because the 1910 census for Mrs. H. C. Davis in Quanah, Hardeman, Texas lists her as a widow. Her children, Guy, Lucille, Tina, and Minnie, were living with her.
Unfortunately, the article isnít dated. There doesnít seem to be an archive of the ďLebanon NewsĒ anywhere, that goes back as far as pre-1910. The newspaper itself only has copies to 1945. I canít seem to find a burial location for Henry Charles Davis in Russell County, or Texas, so Iíve been unable to determine when he actually died.
For Mary B Humphreys Davis (Mrs. H. C. Davis) I canít find any record after the 1910 census. I tried to get a death record from Texas, but they say they donít have one. That could mean she re-married, or left Texas, or that the records just arenít that great.
As a result, I donít know when or where she died.
Even more interesting to me would be to find living descendants of this couple. As far as Iím aware, the only possibility would be descendants of Tina L Davis, who married Charles Jacob Tennes, Jr. I know they had at least one son, Charles Jacob Tennes III (1917-1980), who married Mary Jane Druhan. They had a daughter, Patricia Ann Tennes (1947-2008). However, I just donít know enough about the other children, Guy, Tina, Jamie, Mollie M, or Lucille, to be sure they didnít have descendants. Because of the restrictions ancestry.com places on accessing data on living individuals, and the fact that the last census to be released is 1940, I canít find anything more.
If any of you can help with any of these mysteries, Iíd be very grateful.
