Charlene,

Yes, there are two Solomon Baldwins (well, actually more, as "my" Solomon also had a grandson, Solomon Baldwin, who lived in Boyd County, KY).

But...your Solomon--a son of Stephen Baldwin and Phebe Mitchell seems perhaps connected to mine in the round-about way I mentioned in the earlier post.

As I said, the "Stephen Balden" in the 1850 Russell County, is right in and amongst the Mitchells and Rileys that I have identified as being connected with my Solomon Baldwin. AND...to top that, your Phebe is a Mitchell, which leads me to wonder if she might be a daughter of Layton and Rebecca Mitchell. That is even more intriguing, considering they named their oldest daughter Rebecca, and their oldest son Solomon!

"My" Solomon b. 1810 and his wife Sarah Elliott also named their oldest daughter Rebecca. I am still thinking there is a connection between our two Solomons.

Now I'm a bit confused myself! Stephen and Phebe Baldwin did go to Buchanan Co., VA by 1860, and stayed there. Their son, Solomon Baldwin was born about 1859, so if "your" Solomon Baldwin is the son of Stephen and Phebe, then he was raised in Buchanan County. Yet he died in Russell County?

I know there are at least three different Stephen Baldwins, but did more than one of them have a wife named Phebe?

I am very pleased you responded to my post. The parentage of my Solomon Baldwin is nothing short of a conundrum, and I appreciate every shred of information, or even an exchange that gets me to thinking about this problem in new ways. Thanks!
