OK, I see where I could have reviewed and corrected before I hit post. Duh.....
I am just re: Posting the whole thing with the corrections on the dates. Hope everyone doesn't kill me. ha ha
My gggg grand father John Allen was born abt 1770/72, and died in 1841 in Scott County VA. We know his first wife was Elinor as "John Allen and wife Elinor" sold land he had bought for $1500,00 in Tazewell just a couple of months earlier, to their son Robert Allen. This was done the same year he was married so I figure it was a wedding gift.
In 1826 He married Esther Jane Neal in Tazewell Co. and in
abt. 1833 they moved to Scott Co. VA at Fort Blackmore.
I found his choice of a place to move to interesting since that is the area that Norris Carter who m. Agnes Allen lived.
As for the Samuel Mentioned, from what I can find he is suposed to be the Samuel Allen that married Sarah Prather/Prater. Descedents from this group claim him to be born abt 1755 and up I have seen. But I found in the Henry Co. Court Records, which is where he was before moving to the Washington/Russell Co. VA area, a record where Samuel Allen stated that he served as a Capt, under (I forget that off the top of my head) in 1760. Now the way I see it is if he was a Capt. in 1860 he would have been more like at least 20, making his birth abt 1740.
This means he would have been abt 43 when he married Sarah Prather in 1783 in Henry County, so she could have been a second wife and he had more children that nobody knows about.
Samuel had a son George, from what I can find from others charts, but his age would have been a bit young I think to have been signing a petition at that time, but that could be possible, as we know that they did not pay real close attentions to their ages then, so his b. date in the census records might be off a couple of years. However in Henry Co. in 1784, the year after Samuel m. Sarah Prather, there is a record for a George Allen puchasing property. So I wonder if this is not Samuel's brother, who he named his son after, and maybe he is the one on the petition.
Going through the Washington/Russell Co. Court records and early tax records I also come up with these Allen's.
William, James, Isaac, and David.
A couple of them are where William and John Allen together were taking people to court over debts.
Chalky's had a record for the heirs of John Kendrick who had died abt 1802, were in dispute over his land in Washington Co. It mentions as his daughter Racheal and her husband William Allen. On that petition that I spoke of where the Samuel, George, and John signed for making Tazewell Co., the order of the names on that petition went,
George Allen, Samuel Allen, David Johnson(m. a Kendrick) George Kendrick, John Allen, Patrick Kendrick Sr. and Patrick Kendrick Jr.
Patrick Sr. was a brother to the above John Kendrick who's daughter m. William Allen.(m. abt 177?)
Also there is a record of John Kendrick in 1782 buying 348 acres in Henry Co. VA. where Samuel and Sarah came from.
I FOUND THIS AFTER THE ORIGINAL GOOFED UP POST.
1782 Washington Co. Property Tax list in Capt Fulkerson's Precint had in this order. Thomas Kendrick, John Kendrick, and William Allen.
Also 1796 Russell Co. Court Records states: Samuel Allen exempted from paying poll tax and county levy on account of his age & bodily infirmities.
Now if he was b. in 1855, as some claim he would only have been 46 yrs old. A bit young to be exempt. That is why I believe he is the same one in the Henry Co. records that stated he served as a Capt. in 1760.
The Isaac Allen showed up on Tax records and is the one who married Francis Pettit, I think his birth was abt 1750/1760 as I recall, as at one time I wondered if he could be my John's father as they show up on the tax records abt. the same time. David also shows up at that time. He lived on land adjoining my John in Tazewell, so I assume him to be a younger brother, but I have not proven this. I do know that when David moved to Greene Co. Indiana and John was selling out in Tazewell that there is a record where he is selling land to David's wifes sisters. David's date of birth would have been abt 1780.
I have seen where they speak of Samuel Allen following the Porters into that Clinch River Area, and other families associated with them were the Musicks. And I found in 1728 Thomas Allen and Geroge Musick were granted 1000 acres on the branches of Plentiul and Terrey Run, in Spottsylvania Co. VA.
George was the father of Elexious Musick that came to Washington/Russell Co. George's wife is supposed to be Ann Allen. George Musick and Ann named a daughter Agnes. (remember the Norris Carter and Agnes Allen in Russell)
