John B.Rice

I have heard that my ancestor, John B.Rice, is on a militia tax list in the early 1800s in Rockingham County. He was born in 1785. I have no clue about his parents. He was in Tennessee by 1813- he served in the War of 1812 from Tennessee. Does anyone have the tax list or any info on him? Family stories say his family was from Virginia.
Thanks for any help or leads!
Wanda Rice Petty
P.S. His grandson states in a state questionaire that his g-grandfather Rice fought in the Revolutionary War but does not give his name!
