Death records for Rockbridge Co. go from 1853-1896 and skip to 1912-1917. I checked two printed books of death records as well as Rockbridge Co. Cemetery book and can find neither Mary or John. I did find the following:

CHARLTON, Seaborn O. (w/m) d. 1 Sep 1873 Lex, ukn cause, age 62 yr 11mo 10da, s/o: Wm. & Mary Charlton, b. Frederick Co, painter, h/o Sallie, rpt'd: wife.
CHARLTON, Jas. J. (white male) d. 7 Jan. 1867 RB of chronic diarrhea, aged 23 yr, 10mo. s/o Seburn & Sally Charlton, b. RB, Painter, Mary Charlton, sister reptd.
CHARLTON, Virginia B (white female) d. 3 sep 1870 RB of cancer, aged 31 yr, d/o Elizabeth & John Ryan, b. Missouri, w/o william C., William C. Charlton, husband reptd.
HUMPHREYS, Elizabeth, (white female) d. 22 Dec 1859 Lex of smallpox, aged 19yr, d/o Seaburn & Sarah Charlton, b.RB, w/o Wm. Humphris, s. Charlton, father reptd.
