Is it possible that the prison was actually in the OTHER Salem Va? I forget which town, but somewhere near Stauton, VA was called Salem during the CW.

It makes sense that Salem, Roanoke Co would hold prisoners since it was farther away from enemy lines than Staunton and near the Railroad.

Just some thoughts...
