I am looking for more information on the Thomas Thornton, son of Mark Thornton and Mary Bruce of Richmond Co., VA. In particular, whether he had a son named Thomas. Does anyone have any information at all on this Thomas Thornton family?
I found the following deed listing for my Thomas Thornton in Duplin County, NC but noticed that Thomas Thornton is referred to as "Jr." in this deed.
Sampson-Duplin County, North Carolina, Deed Book 2, Page 389
Thomas Thornton, Jr. to John Teele (Teile)
Dated: 11 August 1756
Trans: 10 pounds "currency of the province" for 150 acres "On the East side of one of the branchess of Coheary it Being the Plantation whereon Wm. Crawford formerly lived." Land was "part of a track of land granted to said Thornton by a deed from Mark Phillips bearing date" 13 March 1755.
Witnesses: Joseph Blackman and Zebulon Cook.
I show that Thomas Thornton, Sr. purchased the land from Mark Phillips on December 11, 1750 (Duplin County, NC Deed book 2, Page 109). I also show his son, Thomas Thornton, Jr., as born circa 1744 and died after 1801 (date of his will) which would make him only around 12 years old at this time. If I'm reading this right then Thomas Thornton who died in 1777 in Duplin Co., NC was a son of Thomas. Could he be the son of Thomas in Orange County who received a Spotswood grant on 27 Aug 1746?
"Thomas Thornton was on a list of tithables in Orange Co. on 26 May 1743 (OB 4). He was given a Spotswood grant of 150 ac. with son Thomas on 27 Aug 1746 (Orange Co. DB 10, p. 394) and sued John Christopher for debt on 24 July 1747 (OB 5)."
I'm looking for any information on the Thomas Thornton of Richmond/Orange County, Virginia. I'm trying to find out if his son went to NC.
