I checked my 1999 Virginia Gazeteer, and found "Daltons" in Caroline County, very near the Richmond, Fredericksburg, & Potomac RR, on county road 607, SE of Villboro on state route 2, but no other Dalton/Daltons.

Dalton is a familiar family name in Pulaski County for the past 50+ years, but I do not know how far back it actually traces.

If you are close to a repository which holds old gazeteers, try looking there.

What are you searching? Any clues for "Dalton"?
