My great grandmother, Victoria E. Helton (she changed her last name from Eagle to Helton between 1870 and 1880) lived and worked in Pulaski County, Virginia in the 1890s. There were two boys, Herbert Loyd and William Bruce. They each spelled their last name three different ways over time, Helton, Hilton, and Hylton. The family stories go that she had a child out of wedlock with a William Ingles. My grandfather, William Bruce Helton, was born August 23, 1894 in Pulaski County and died June 21, 1975 in Richmond, Virginia. I have found two possible connections if the information my mother and aunts have is correct. There were two William Ingles in the area at the time. One was William Ingles born February 16, 1846 and died April 14, 1920. The other William Ingles was born November 27, 1877 and died April 20, 1966 (although this William would have been 16 at the time of conception and 17 at the time of birth). Is there anyone out there that might have more information on this possible connection? DGHarris518@yahoo.com
