A possible location for Fort Hughes is the present city of Hugheston, WV. Thomas Hughes, Sr. died May 27, 1794 and was buried "on the hill overlooking Hughes Fort" in Kanawha County (the present Hugheston, WV). (This information is contained in a Genforum message by a C. Simpson dated 2-20-03). My G-G-G-Grandfather, Grandison C. Hughes, was the grandson of the ____ Hughes for which Hughes Fort was named. It is possible that the Historical Society in or near Hugheston would be able to ascertain the actual location. I live in the Pacific Northwest or else I would go there myself.
