May have the right person, may not. My 3xgreat grandfather, James Godfrey married a young widow with two sons. Her name, Mrs. Mary Bonney had been previously married to a David Bonney. [1826, July 12. Marriage Bond. David Bonney to Miss Mary "Polly" D. Ansell. Solomon DYER, guardian consents for bride. Bondsman Nathan R. Bonney. (Barkley, Marriages p.15)]

David Bonney died in 1831 and left two small children, John Bonney born 1828 and David Bonney born 1831 (approx ages from 1860 census). James Godfrey became their guardian upon marriage to their mother.

[1833, August Court. James Godfrey, guardian to John and David Bonney, paid himself for boarding the two orphans for year 1832 (guardians accounts, #10, 1833 - 1851, pg387, recorded 1838)]

Hope this helps.
