We can trace them back to 1870 in Kershaw County SC. No trace of them before that. I asked my ex-husband if they were from someplace else before that and he didn't know. Many ex-slaves left the states they were living in to begin their lives elsewhere. While researching other family names in Virginia, I too ran across many Burroughs, and thought that may be the place to search. Thanks for the reminder.
