I don't know enough about William S. Robinson to speak with absolute certainty, but it appears that you may have combined the records of two different men here.
The William S. Robinson who I am familiar with is a brother to our ancestor, Henry Joseph Robinson, and a son of David Robinson and Mary Hodges of Goochland / Fluvanna counties. It appears that he was the one who served in Co. G, 44th Va. Inf. on the basis of his widow's pension filed in Prince Edward Co. around 1900. This is also referenced in the roster section of the regimental history of the 44th Va. which was a Fluvanna Co. unit.
This William S. Robinson married Martha Ann Rice, daughter of Tarlton Rice and Elizabeth Lea, in Fluvanna Co. 1843. I have not looked for him in census records for following years but he is in Prince Edward (Farmville) in 1880 on the same page as brother H.J. Robinson. I have not checked it out in detail but I believe that several members of the extended family went to Farmville shortly after the war where they engaged in the cooperage business.
His widow who received the pension was named Martha A. Robinson. In the application she states that he died Jan. 25, 1882 or 1887 (the copy was hard to read). She gives the same marrige date as I mentioned above, so I am sure that this lady was Martha Ann Rice.
If Farmville even had a newspsper for the time period at which William died, I don't think copies exist today. His brother, Henry Joseph Robinson, died in 1896 and his obit appears in the paper. William's wife should be there as well since she died in the early 1900's but I have not looked for her there. Per the newspsper obit, Henry and his wife were buried in the Farmville cemetery. I looked for their graves but found nothing. I suppose that William and wife could have been buried there as well. This needs more investigation.
Another researcher and I have both posted several messages on Robinson GenForum as details have been uncovered. Let me know if this is your family and I can help you out with some additional information.
