In 1785, when William Smith (son-in-law of old Obediah Smith of Henrico County-proven) wrote his (Powhatan county) will, he had a son named Francis.
Sept. 8, 1785 William Smith of Southam Parish, Powhatan County, wrote his
will. Recorded Jan 21, 1790.
Wife Mary [nee Smith, daughter of Obadiah Smith of Henrico County.]
Sons:[birthdates all came from the Smith Bible records at the Library of Virginia...jeb]
Josiah; [born January 8, 1766(?)
Robert, deceased; Born July
7, 1743]
William Starling Smith; [born May 23, 1750]
Francis Smith; [born Nov. 18, 1757]
Daughters: Elizabeth Pleasants; [born Oct. 1, 1745]
Mary Morton, [born July 4, 1755]
Ann[e] ,[born April 6, 1760]
Judith. [born August 2, 1769]
Grandchildren: orphans of my son Robert, except William, who is to have no
Grandaughters: Elizabeth Woodson; Mary Ann Pleasants: Martha Pleasants;
Judith Pleasants.
Brother: George Smith [William bequeathed land he bought in Prince Edward
County from his brother George Smith to his own {William’s} son Francis
Witnesses: William Dean, Ele (Ellie) Dean, William Mosby. (Author Benjamin
Weisiger says Ele Dean is Elizabeth Dean.)
Children not named in the will, but named in the Family Bible were:
Jacob Smith born November 8, 1747,
George Smith born December 25, 1752/3(?)…hard to read]
Obadiah Smith born August 25, 1767]

According to the Family Bible, William Smith (deceased, above) was the son
of Robert and Mary Smith, and he was born November 18, 1720. He married
Mary Smith (daughter of old Obadiah and Mary Smith of Henrico County, Va. )
on Feb. 18, 1742. William’s father Robert Smith was the son of William
Smith whose wife was Ann Sterling. “They both came from England to America
and settled in Glocester (sic) County in Virginia.” From Smith Family

Mary Smith, the daughter of Obadiah Smith, Sr. of Henrico County, was born
