spotsylvania vs pittsylvania

Handed down to me was a list of my JEFFRIES back to 1800 in Virginia. My problem is the person that wrote it put that they were from the town of Spotsylvania, County of Pittsylvania, Virginia. As far as I can determine there is a Spotsylvania City but it is not in Pittsylvania Co - it is near Fredricksburg which is in Spotsylvania County.

Does anyone have an old map from the 1800's that shows the towns in each county. Could there perhaps have been a Spotsylvania at one time in Pittsylvania? My JEFFRIES left VA and went to Greene Co, TN briefly and then arrived in Greene Co, MO in 1838 where they remained for the most part.

I have a James (have reason to believe it was William James) b. 1800 VA who married Louisa Harper b. NC - they married in Caswell Co, NC - so I am thinking that the odds are higher they hailed from Pittsylvania Co.
