William Talbott died as a child when run over by train
Posted by: Alva Noonan (ID *****4540) Date: March 10, 2012 at 20:19:27
  of 1883

The story as I know it: my grandmother, Rose Ethel Farmer IRBY said that "granny" who would be Dinitia Mayhew TALBOTT had a son, William TALBOTT. The story goes the father, James Hunter TALBOTT had built a fence around the yard when they moved by railroad tracks. He had the gate but had not attached it yet. His wife called him in for lunch. He thought he would connect the gate after lunch. William some how went out during that time went onto the tacks and was run over by a train. The mother runs out, sees what has happened and while distraught is running along the tracks collect pieces of her child in her apron. This was her first born was on the 1880 census as being six in Callands, Pittsylvania County, VA but seems to disapear after that year. Any clues or suggestions anyone?
