Is anyone tracing the ancestry and family of Peter Barrott (c1756-1839) whose estate was administered in Person County, NC in 1839? If so, I would be glad to hear from you.
Peter Barrott was a Revolutionary War soldier whose pension records can be downloaded off Heritage Quest. He was discharged from military service in Loudoun County, Va. in 1780 or 1781, and by mid-1781 was in Pittsylvania County, VA where he was reported on tax lists through at least 1792. By 1796 he was in Person County, NC where he remained until he died. In 1820, his wife's name was Sarah. Whether she was the mother of his children is not known, but certainly possible.
From what I've seen, it appears that Peter Barrott had at least 8 children, with 7 marrying in Person County, NC. They were:
#1 Peggy Barrott b. c1780s, d. after 1840. She m. 1801 in Person County to John Austin. Judging by Person County, NC census records through 1840, they apparently had a large family but I don't have records for any of the children.
#2 Susanna Barrott b. c1780s/90s. She m. 1812 in Person County to William Farmer. I know nothing about them. I cannot find them in the 1830 census.
#3 Nancy Barrott b. c1790s. She m. 1812 in Person County to Landrum Carver. I know nothing about them. I cannot find them in the 1830 census.
#4 Rhoda Barrott b. c1790s, d. 1844. She m. 1810 in Person County to Moses Hall and lived in Pittsylvania and Halifax Counties, Va. They had 14 children (my line).
#5 Mary Barrott b. c1790s. She m. 1819 in Person County to John Chamberlin. I know nothing about them. I cannot find them in the 1830 census.
#6 Jabez Barrott b. c1800, d. after 1860. He 1st m. 1823 in Person County to Mary Southard; 2nd m. 1853 in Person County to Susan Jacobs. They remained in Person County, NC through at least 1860. I have a few records on their Oakley descendants only.
#7 John Barrott b. c1804. He m. 1822 in Person County to Elizabeth Whitmore. I have no records on them. I cannot find them in the 1830 census.
#8 (daughter) Barrott b. c1807. Name unknown. She was mentioned as a 13-year-old-daughter in 1820 in Peter Barrott's Revolutionary War pension file, but her name wasn't recorded.
