Hello Carl,
Could your William C Bowman b 1859 be the 7 month old William Bowman in the 1860 census for Patrick County VA in the household of William 35 & Polly Bowman 33 with Emeline 6 & Clementine V 4?
They were in Household 80, two households from my gg-grandfather Cleon Bowman. In 1859 Cleon was bondsman for the marriage of William Bowman and Mary Jackson in Surry County, NC, and in the 1850 census William & Mary were listed next-door to Cleon, who was undoubtedly William's Brother.
Maybe we can help each other sort out this part of my Family.
