I haven't done a lot of work on Bartlett yet and -- because of all of the courthouse fires in Virginia and the many people named Smith -- I have been a little slow in pursuing this part of the line. What I do know is that Patrick County shows a lot of deed activity and also other court records.
I have been told that earlier records would be in Henry County and prior to that Pittsylvania but have not checked those counties yet other than to see that Bartlett Smith does appear on a tax list in Henry County.
There are some tantalizing possible links that I've seen, but the dates suggest a missing generation as the time frame is too great for it to likely be one person (especially with children in the late 1780's and 1790's) AND living to about 1832.
If you can find the Grant Deed books; the Wills, Inventories & Accounts and Order Book O, you will find entries involving Bartlett but their significance as to identifying other family members --- well, I don't know.
Some of the names in the last two mentioned with Bartlett Smith are Beller, John Vancil, Madison Morre, William Moore, John Nunn, John Creed, James Dickeson, Thomas Whitlock. Some of these were involved in roads in the county c. 1797-98.
That's about all I have at present.
