Hi....Have you found out anything more about your John W. Hughes' parents? I am thinking that there was only one Amistead Hughes in Orange, VA and he was married twice. First to Sarah A. Sleet in 1836 and then to Sarah F. Hicks in 1846.
John W. and his sister Rebecca's mother was Sarah Sleet and I am thinking that John's sister Mary and brother David P. and younger sister Lucy were the children of Sarah F. Hicks.
I have Rebecca's marriage and death certificate and she lists her mother as Sarah Sleet. Rebecca married Robert Columbus Strong and they had a daughter named Fannie Jackson Strong who married John Robert Hughes. John Robert Hughes was the son of Wyatt Jefferson and Mary Ann "Herndon" Hughes, my GG Grandparents. Jefferson Hughes was living with a Alexander Hughes and his wife Jane in 1850 in Orange, VA. Some of my cousins are thinging that our Wyatt Jefferson, This Alexander Hughes and Armistead Hughes may have been brothers and that their parents were Alexander and Elizabeth "Mitchell" Hughes who were married on Dec. 22, 1803.
Armistead Hughes could have been married a third time to a Mary Gibson in June 5, 1879. Armistead was listed as a widow and age 60 when he married this Mary Gibson and Mary was listed also as a widow and age 39.
