Echols is one of the surnames suggested for Elizabeth, the wife of my relative Bryant Fannin. He was born perhaps in Prince George Co. Va. 1698 and dided in Amelia Co. Nottoway PArish 1765. His wife Elizabeth is believed to have been born in 1718 and died in 1772. They married around 1725 in the AMelia Co. area. Bryan appears in Amelia Co. around 1730. His land is on Birchin Creek.
WE do not have a surname for Elizabeth, but Echols has been suggested.

One of his children - Bryan Jr. married Rachel Rottenbury around 1767and they live in Sussex Co. Va. .

In 1769, Edmund Eckles and James Eckles and wife MArtha Eckles of Amelia Co. sell land to Rachel Fannin of Sussex Co. for 45 pounds 244 acres on southside of Nottoway River and bounded by the Cabbin stick branch, John Cock, Hollam Strudivant and "the Patent" 140 ares of this land was formerly granted on 30 Oct. 1727 and the remainder never before granted (Martha Eckels relinquished Right fo Dower).

9/20/1770 - Rachel Faning deeds to her son Byran Faning for love and affection 244 acres lately bought from Eduard Eckles of Georgia and James Eckles of amelia Co, and whereon Rachel Faning now lives. Also a negro girl Sarah. Wit. Nicholas MAssenburg, Lucy Massenburg, John Massenburg Rec. 9/20/1770

After her death, Bryan Faning, son of Rachel and Bryan Jr. stays in the Sussex Co. ARea but there are cousin Fannins who go on to Wilkes Co. Georgia.

From this information, it appears that Eckles were active in Nottoway as wella s some connections with Sussex Co. Va. and Georgia.
