Hi Bill,

Thanks for your response. I actually do know about James Smith's Brockenbrough descendants, as they are my husband's family. They are pretty well documented, as are the Wallers. [It's Moore Fauntleroy Brockenbrough, not Monroe, by the way.] John Smith, the father of Sarah Waller Smith, was from Mathews Co., which is a "burned record" county, and given how common that name is, I've pretty much given up searching him.

DNA isn't an option, I'm afraid.
