I'm a descendant from Luther Ball. My great grandmother was Martha 'Mattie' Louise Ball, daughter of Marshall Luther Ball. Marshall Luther Ball was the son of James Luther Ball and of course James Luther Ball was the son of Luther Ball.

In my research (my limited ability compared to some of the abilities on this site) I did find the marriage document of Luther Ball and Esther Wheeler. I only had a "gut feeling" that he was James Luther Ball's father, but it wasn't until I came across your message board information that I was finally able to be certain, and for that I thank you.

I do find it odd that James Luther Ball was orphaned after his father's death in 1835, because his mother, Esther Wilson Wheeler Ball did not die until 23 Dec 1854. Was she incapable of taking care of him? She appears in the 1850 US Census living with some else (maybe a boarding house?).
