Some of my early ancestors were from Nelson Co. I was there in 1999 but didn't have the time I needed or would have liked to spend there.

One item I did hear from an old timer. There were some residents in northern Nelson Co. that went to Lexington (Rockbridge Co. to file vital records. The trip over the mountains to Lovington was harder to take than going down the "valley" to Lexington.

I have one individual that I believe was my 4th Granduncle.

I found him in Rockbridge County births. He his birth place was listed in 1791 as Nelson County but, there wasn't a Nelson Co. in 1791.

Nelson was formed from Amherst Co. in 1810.

Named as son of James Leighton on marriage record.

I have quite a few of his siblings but, I need to prove that his father was James Leighton that married Anne Burrell in Fredericks County in 1786.

I hope this gives you a lead to your individuals.

Charlie
