Hi Rom
THANKS SO MUCH for your reply. Tell your mother that I am named for Lou Moss and Alice Moss Hicks. They are both daughter of William Thomas Duke and Martha Vierginia.
They are sisters of Ruth and Charlie.

Lou married Gene Mattox and they left Miss. and came to KY. He was the registrar at Eastern KY Univ in Richmond, KY. There's a hall named Mattox Hall at the university that was named for him.

Alice Moss married Russell Hicks and lived in Lexington, KY. Alice was a teacher and she and her husband owned a very successful advertising business. They made all that advertising stuff, key chains, pens, etc that had your business name on them. I know those kinds of companies are a dime a dozen now but in the 40, 50, 60s that was big business. They traveled to trade shows all over the states. Alice was also an artist and gardener. She was featured in Southern Living for her giant peonies and holly trees. She also made Xmas decorations and actually did a Xmas tree for Neiman Marcus in Chicago.

My mother Leo Moss went to Easter Univ, became a teacher. She got a teaching job in Louisville, KY and taught for 45 years. She died in 1999. She and my dad who worked for the post office lived in Louisville but had farms in southern Indiana where we spent weekends, summers, and anytime school was out. We raised Registered Polled Herefords, grew tobacco, wheat, corn and soya beans. I still have the farms and they're still working farms but I don't do it myself anymore.

That's enough Ky history bios. Thanks again so much. You all solved a mystery that's been perplexing us. My cousin, Anita Moss and I have worked on this for years. She is Rubel and Daisy Moss' dtr. She's an english professor at U of NC. She lives in Charlotte, NC

Thanks again.
LouAlice
