court record 1695 "Nansemond County"

During my early years of researching (some 30 years ago), I did not know that money spent on copies was money well spent and did not always document. I have only a handwritten note, which now has importance, of a court event in 1695 "Nansemond county, VA". I would very much like to find this again. My notes are that in Nansemond County, VA in 1695, a Samuel Steagall is a witness. I do not remember if this came from a published source or microfilm. I know that Nansemond is no longer a county. Where would I likely find this information?
Thanks for any help!
