Looking for parents for John McDonald born 10 Aug 1807 Gallia County (later Meigs) Ohio.

Portrait and Biographical Album of Jo Daviess and Carroll Counties, Illinois, p.291, states:

..John and Samantha (Reed) McDonald, who were natives respectively of Meigs County, Ohio, and Montpelier, Vt.; the father (John) was born in 1807, and the mother in 1806. The paternal grandfather (John's father) was a native of Scotland, and emigrated to America when a young man, locating in Virginia. Later he removed to Meigs County, Ohio, where his death took place.

John McDonald was left an orphan when an infant, and was reared by a maternal aunt; Mrs. Allan, in Virginia. Later be returned to his native State where be learned the blacksmith's trade, and was married (to Samantha Reed) in 1832.

Any information on John's parents is gratefully appreciated!
