The letter of Col Charles Yancey of the 1st Va Regiment was written at camp Fairfield 22 Aug 1814 to Thomas Jefferson. This Charles Yancey was from Albemarle. This is not the Charles Yancey of Buckingham who was his first cousin.Jefferson and Peter Carr had been supportive of a militia unit and Charles of Albemarle left the area in July and headed to Richmond then to camp Fairfield. His letter indicates that two regiments were formed. He was commanding the 1st regt and Col Belue of Buckingham was commanding the 2nd regt. The units were soon to remove to Holly Springs.I have copies of the letter I can send you by email or you can access as follows:

In the upper right search box enter Charles Yancey. Then scroll down to item 20.Letter from Charles Yancey to Thomas Jefferson dated August 22, 1814.If you need assistance deciphering let me know.I have completed the first page and am working on the second page.
