I am seeking the connection between the people named in the following records. 5 August 1695. A record that is supposed to exist, but needs to be located to prove that it does exist and to get additional information from the document. JOHN WINNINGHAM and Elizabeth Winningham sold land in Charles City Co., VA to John Young. NOTE: John Young is a name that runs through later Winningham records. PRINCE GEORGE CO. VA created 1700 from Charles City created 1634 an original shire. 1704 Prince George, VA (included Amelia & Nottoway), JOHN WNNINGHAM, Jr. Rent Roll 200 acres [copy]; 1704 Prince George, VA, Thomas Winingham, rent roll 100 acres [copy]; 1704 Edward Winningham, rent roll 100 acres [copy]; 11 Oct 1715 John Hill of Parish of Westopher, Pr. Geo. Co. to John Pooke of same, for #21/12, 9 acres of land in same parish and county. Bounded by John Hill, William Mattocks, JOHN WINNINGHAM, Burwell Green. Witt: Geo. Woodlief, John Lessanley. Mary, wife of John Hill, release dower. [Pr. Geo. Co., VA Wills and Deeds 1713-1728 p. 8] 8 April 1718 John Roberts of Surry Co. and Thomas Winningham of Pr. Geo. Co. to Darrel Young, Jr. of Pr. Geo. Co. for 1300 lbs tobacco 100 acres of land where Winningham lives bounds by Charles Bartholomew, JOHN YOUNG, Capt. John Poythress. John Robbards; Thos (X) Winnigham [Pr. Geo. Co., VA Wills and Deeds 1713-1728 p. 27] 10 June 1718 John Roberts of Southwark Parish, Surry County and Edward Winningham of Westopher Parish, Prince George County to John Woodleife, "otherwise called John Woodleife of the pasture" of Westopher Parish, Prince George County for 1300 lbs tobacco, 100 acres of land in Westopher Parish, Prince George County, bounded by Darrell Young, Jr.[Purchased land from Thomas Winningham 8 April 1718], John Poythress [JOHN WINNINGHAM appraised his land 11 Aug 1724] and JOHN YOUNG [Purchased land from JOHN WINNINGHAM 5 Aug 1695]. Witness: Gilbert Hay, Henry Batte. “Signed” John Robbards. Edward (E) Winningham. Recorded 10 June 1718 [ Wills & Deeds: Prince George County, VA. Benjamin B. Weisiger III, compiler, Prince George County, Virginia Wills and Deeds 1713-1728 (Benjamin B. Weisiger III, 1973), page 29.] Looking at JOHN YOUNG being adjacent to property that Thomas Winningham sold 8 April 1718 to Darrel Young, Jr. and JOHN YOUNG being adjacent to the property that Edward Winningham sold 10 June 1718 to John Woodleife and supposing that John Young's property is the same property that John Young purchased from (**)John and Elizabeth Winningham 5 Aug 1695, then Thomas and Edward and (**)John Winningham's property were adjacent properties. I think this ties Thomas and Edward and (**)John Winningham together, but it does not tell us what their relationship is. At this time, I'm inclined to believe that (**) John Sr. is the father and Thomas and Edwards are sons and John Jr. was born about 1700. NOTE that John Roberts of Southwark Parish, Surry Co., VA sold Thomas Winningham's land with him and sold Edward's land with him. WHY? 12 May 1724 Will of John Poythress of Martins Brandon Parish recorded 12 May 1724. JOHN WINNINGHAM, William Stainback, and Francis Epes, Jr. were witnesses. John Poythress owned several pieces of land that were mentioned in his will including "...280 acres, next to Thomas Poythress, JOHN YOUNG, Darrell Young, and JOHN WINNINGHAM". [Pr. Geo. Co., VA Wills and Deeds 1713-1728] NOTE that the above will shows that JOHN WINNINGHAM still owned land by JOHN YOUNG 12 May 1724. Notify Administrator about this message?
