Martin/Thacker migration from VA-> KY around 1805

Apparently there was a group migrating from VA (Amherst Co.?) to Franklin Co (now Anderson), Kentucky around 1805.

Joel Thacker (1777, VA) and wife Sarah Buford (1780, VA)
[Deed indicates arrived in ,Franklin, Ky, in 1807]
Their son, Alfred Thacker (1804, VA)
Edward Martin (1804, VA)
[Family connection: Edward's daughter Catharine married Alfred's son John B}

John R Martin (1803, VA) and farm neighbor John Martin 1780, VA) (his father?)

Does any one have history, record, or story about such a migration? Perhaps one of the Wilderness Trail groups? I know there were a lot of folks migrating into Ky about this time, perhaps with Revolutionary War land grants.

I am mainly trying to trace my 3g grandfather John R Martin back to Virginia, looking at some of his neigbors in Anderson County for clues.

Any help much appreciated.

Tom Cook
