I too am trying to discover something about my hazelwoods. my great great grandmother was Ada Virginia Hazelwood. Her father was Tobe or Tobiaf Hazelwood and her mother was Olivia Whitaker. The story is that Ada's father left her, so Ada always went by Ada Whitaker. Ada married James William Vaughn. My family is from the area of south western virginia and parts of west virginia, such as mercer county. I believe that there might be a connection.
Here is a marraige record that I found for Olivia and Tobe in the giles county books
June 28, 1896 James W. Vaughn (26) single, born and lived in Giles, farmer, son of A.J. and Martha Vaughn. Ada Hazelwood (18) single, born and lived in Giles, daughter of Tobe and Ollie Hazelwood. Minister: T.C. Pulliam
