John Buford Turner and Margaret Sophronia Gay - Elmore County, Alabama

I have the J. B. & M. S. Turner's family Bible, which gives me, along with other information, very good reason to believe that my great Grandfather was John Buford Turner and my great Grandmother was Margaret Sophronia Gay.

I also believe, though I have no proof, John Buford Turner's great-great-grandfather was Lewis Turner, born in Frederick County, Virginia, in February of 1761 or 1762.

Lewis Turner was living in Union County, South Carolina by the time of the American Revolution. He was an American Revolution war veteran with the South Carolina Militia under Captain William Grant, as was one Abel Kendrick.

There had been intermarriage between the Turner and Kendrick families in South Carolina.

Lewis Turner settled, along with James Lewis Kendrick, which had intermarried with the Turner family in South Carolina, Kendrick Springs or K-Springs, Shelby County, Alabama. His great-grandfather would have been Lewis Turner, Jr. It is highly possible that Lewis Turner, Jr. son, Elisha Turner, was his father. At this date none of this is documented, but my search seems to be in headed in this direction.

Some of this information is taken from the very fine book Early Settlers of the K-Springs/Chelsea Area (Alabama) by Shelba Shelton Nevins, who has graciously permitted me to use information from her book, which is available for purchased at http://www.rootsweb.com/~alshelby/books-sale.html

Any information regarding any of the individuals listed above will be greatly appreciated. Please address me personally at misterturner@bellsouth.net or on this Turner Genforum.
