Our line is looking for Anne Everard, daughter of Sir Richard Everard, and a sister of Lady Susanna Everard Meade. Is there any information that this Anne Everard married John Hamilton about 1746 in Virginia? There's a problem with the genealogy data passed down. We can't find verification that about 1746 Ann Everard, who married John Hamilton of Va., was Governor Everard's daughter. True, the Governor's youngest daughter is about the age of our Ann Everard, but written record (uncovered to date (7-11-1997)) indicates she went back to England with her father and mother in 1732 and married there a man who worked in the Tower of London. It wasn't a happy marriage and he mis-used her inheritance. After the mother's death in 1739, Ann assisted her brother-in-law from America (David Meade, Susanna's husband) in selling and dividing the estate. Then the written record on Ann ends. "EVERARD, Sir Richard, last colonial governor of Carolina, died in London, England, 17 February 1733. He was the last of the proprietary governors, and his administration was disturbed by frequent altercations with the council. When he had been governor for four years the lords proprietors, in 1729, surrendered the provinces to the crown, each receiving in consideration of the surrender the sum of $12,500. The population of North and South Carolina, after the charter had been in existence 66 years, was not at that time more than 25,000 persons, including Negroes. On the transfer, Everard was recalled, and the first royal governor, George Burrington, succeeded him in February 1730." Do you have any information on this Anne Everard?
