Mona, All the Hartwell's you found were mine. The one in the 1790 Census is an uncle (or so we think) to our Hart Sr. in Virginia. There were many HARTWELL NEWSOM/NEWSOME/NUSUMS,that is one of the major problems with researching him. There are also Henry B.'s that get mixed up with the Hartwell B's. The Hartwell Newsoms you found in 1860 in Virginia are father and son. The problem is our Hart Sr. disappeared from the 1870 census and by that time Hart Jr. was dead from war wounds (Civil War) and Hart Sr's sons, Gilliam (by Elizabeth Gray) and James McDuffy (by Narcissa Watts) had left Virginia and traveled to Iowa, Hart may have left Virginia with them. I have also come across Hartwell Newsomes in eastern Kentucky which makes matters worse. We have no idea where Hart Sr. died or where he is buried. Seems that he had a bad habit of leaving his wives sitting and going off to do whatever took his fancy. Maybe that is why there were so many wives. I descend from James McDuffy/Duffy Newsome,Hart Sr.'s son. Thanks loads for the information. Diana Notify Administrator about this message?
