My wife was a Fitzgerald whose ancestors came from Blackstone, VA going back into the Colonial days. William Fitzgerald I came from Charles City, VA. and his father was John Fitzgerald who, it was reported, but not confirmed, married an Eliz. Poythress. That lineage goes back to most of the Kings and Queens of Europe. However we have no connection of John back to Ireland. All of the homesteads of the Fitzgerald family in Blackstone had County names from Ireland-Leinster, Munster and Belfast.
The info. we do have about John Fitzgerald and Poythress came from the LDS files. They stop at John, but say he was born in Leinster.
Perhaps you have some clues that we can use to connect with Ireland.
Remember, at any one time the Irish in this country may have had a price on their head by the British. Also various fires in Ireland burned up the records.
Also understand that the Fitzgeralds in Ireland at first were immigrants from Wales, and before that, the Continent. Fitzgerald, in the beginning was not an Irish name (Neither was Kennedy, for that matter)
