My ggggrandfather was John Coleman who by 1740 was living in Albemarle and later Amherst County, VA. He married Susannah (last name could be Clark but not certain of that)
in 1754. John may be the one identified in the land transaction in Mecklenberg Co. but I don't know that. I don't know whether he had a brother named James, or indeed who his father and mother were, or where he was born. I do know that he named his eldest son James. He was a tobacco planter and moved to Colonial Georgia (probably around 1770) acquiring land in an area later becoming Albemarle and Elbert Counties.. He acquired substantial lands in these counties and adjoining ones where he grew tobacco. He served in the GA Colonial Legislature He died in 1778 and his will was probated in GA in that year. My gggrandfather (John Coleman, his second son) moved to Tennessee and later Alabama where he died. I know considerably more about him and that generation. Sorry, I am not of much help to you.
