Mark ALEXANDER slaves on freedom day 1865

I have transcribed and posted to my website a list of 217 persons from a document entitled "Negroes Belonging to Mark Alexander Senior of the County of Mecklenburg State of Virginia on the day of the Surrender of the Army of Virginia by Gen Robert E Lee April 9th 1865"

Transcribed from the original in the Mark Alexander Papers, Manuscripts and Rare Books Department, Swem Library, College of William and Mary, by Denise Oliver-Velez, Jan. 2003. Researched by Lloyd D. Smith

Many of the newly freed slaves kept the surname ALEXANDER and can be found in 1870 and 1880 census records.

Hope this helps anyone searching for ancestors from that plantation.
