I have a Samuel H. Thomas from Madison Co. in my family. Born c. 1820, he was listed in the Rappahannock Co. 1850 census with his wife Sarah (Sallie) Hudson whom he married in Amherst. (I think Samuel was from Madison; his mother died and his dad remarried - how or why they went to Amherst I don't know but the kids apparently returned to Madison.)Also in the (1850) household was their two young daughters and Job Thomas, age 28. Job and Samuel both listed their occupation as cabinet maker.
One of their eldest granddaughters gave her family the following information (this list must be over 50 years old): Samuel's bros. and sisters were "Jake", Payton, Mary (Teasley), and Jane (Tyler).
I thought Jake/Job/Joseph might refer to the same fellow. Hope this will help you a bit.
