I also decend from Robert Edward Long and Lucinda Simpson. My Grandmother, Helen Long (Thompson) was born in Wolftown and currently lives in Orange. She is 88 and still sharp. She claims the Longs decend from Philip Lung (German), who was one of three brothers that all changed their names to Long when they immigrated to US at Philly from Alsace, France/Germany (I believe). He was an early settler in the Shen. Valley in the 1730s. He is found in the Orange Co. records. Unfortunately, hooking him up to the Madison County Longs has been difficult. There is another Long you did not mention, Leonard Long, as a possibility for Edward's father. Will look up when I get home. I have all the info on the Simpsons, but don't have it at work. I will have to dig it out when I get home. You may email me at home rachelt@cvn.net.
